NÚRIA MARTÍNEZ-VERNIS (Barcelona, 1976)
Born in Barcelona in 1976. For her first book of poetry L’acròbata tampoc no en sortirà il·lès (2000) (Neither Will the Acrobat Escape Unscathed), she received the Amadeu Oller Award and the Anna Dodas Memorial Award. Her second book, Quantes mentides fan una sola veritat (2003) (How Many Lies Make a Single Truth), garnered the Josep M. Lopez-Picó Prize.
In the words of Màrius Sampere, her poetry “cleverly proclaims, refusing – as if nothing had happened – to be included within conventional parameters. And, therefore, it challenges and rejects, bidding defiance to predictable storm clouds, the lightning of established rules, pure Cartesian logic, and, finally, tradition, ever temperate, the approval of academic lights”.
